Mayor Dennington is ABSENT AGAIN
Mayor Alison Dennington missed the Regular Town Commission Meeting AGAIN. On July 15th, the mayor was absent.
This wasn’t the first time that Mayor Alison Dennington was absent from a scheduled Melbourne Beach Town Commission meeting. Neither the Town Manager nor the commissioners were informed in advance of her absence, and no excuse was offered to the public or to her fellow officials.
In the mayor’s stead, Vice Mayor Terry Cronin presided over the meeting and did an excellent job keeping the Town’s business on track. Cronin’s steady handling of the agenda ensured that Town matters proceeded without disruption.
Later that evening, Truth and Accuracy Matter was notified by a resident who shared a photo of Dennington’s car in her driveway at 7:53PM showing that she was allegedly at home.
What makes all of this particularly notable is that Mayor Dennington, while skipping the Town meeting, invested her time to file a last-minute appeal to the Florida Appellate Court AGAINST the Town of Melbourne Beach at 11:47PM that same night. They are suing the Town AGAIN over that shed!!!
We now have the eighth case filed against the Town of Melbourne Beach by the Denningtons/Funoe LLC. On June 15, 2026 the Denningtons/Funoe LLC’s original appeal to the Brevard County Appellate Court was dismissed by the judge’s decision, “that the justiciable issues on appeal have been rendered moot as a result of the Settlement Agreement and Mutual General Release entered into by the parties and the passage of Ordinance 2024-01 amending section 7A-57 of the Town of Melbourne Beach's Land Development Code”. Losing the shed case three times already apparently didn’t turn on any light bulbs for the mayor and her husband. Fueled by the mayor’s misdirected passion, the Denningtons/Funoe are one again acting out to try to prove that everyone else is wrong and they are the only ones who are right. It will be interesting to see how the State level court system deals with the continuous, frivolous lawsuits filed against our small Town for something as trivial as a shed.
Shirking public duties at a scheduled meeting while pursuing a personal legal action against the very Town that she was elected to serve raises questions about her priorities and accountability to the people she represents.
The residents of the Town of Melbourne Beach deserve elected officials who communicate absences properly, explain their decisions, and put Town responsibilities first. The commission and the community should expect clear, timely explanations whenever an official is unable to attend a public meeting.
Some may speculate that the mayor’s absence was for a variety of reasons… Given the FACT that the Denningtons/Funoe lost the Public Records case just two weeks ago, the mayor may have felt vulnerable to the backlash from Town residents who are fed up with the continuous, frivolous lawsuits against the Town. She might have guessed that many residents would, no doubt, be at the same meeting in full force to make their voices heard during public comment. That was an accurate assumption. Residents came in unison, embracing the circle of TRUTH, some wearing NO LIES/NO LAWSUITS T-shirts, others in regular street clothes. Some stood to speak at the podium, while others that sat in support. ALL expressed a strong message against the behavior and actions of the mayor. We have to wonder to ourselves if she even cared enough to watch it from home…
