Audits Over Allegations

The residents of the Town of Melbourne Beach deserve governance rooted in integrity, openness, and truth. That’s why we extend our sincere gratitude to Florida House of Representatives Member Monique Miller for her proactive leadership in addressing concerns about our town’s operations. Rep. Miller reached out to former Town Vice Mayor, Joyce Barton, our Town Manager, Elizabeth Mascaro and others to explore a collaborative review of Melbourne Beach’s governance through a joint legislative audit committee process. Her commitment to accountability—even in the face of unfounded criticism—is a testament to her dedication to our community.

Rep. Miller’s decision to engage directly with residents and town employees  reflects a refreshing respect for due process. By initiating dialogue about a potential audit, she has demonstrated a balanced approach: listening to concerns while ensuring factual rigor guides next steps. We deeply respect her willingness to bridge divides and seek clarity, rather than amplifying baseless accusations.

Every year, the Town of Melbourne Beach’s finance manager submits detailed town audits to the Florida Auditor General, as required by law. These audits ensure compliance and fiscal responsibility. While some have demanded additional scrutiny, it’s important to note that ONLY state legislators can formally request supplemental reviews through the Joint Legislative Audit Committee. Rep. Miller’s exploration of this process underscores her commitment to transparency within our town—and we welcome it.  Click HERE to read Rep. Miller’s letter to the JLAC Committee that she forwarded to us on August 11, 2025.

The independent and unbiased audit by JLAC will provide a neutral, data-driven assessment of our town’s financial practices. IF improvements are needed, the Town will address them. IF current processes meet standards, the findings will speak for themselves. Either way, truth prevails.

Our town has endured months of unnecessary strife fueled by a small but vocal group intent on undermining trust in local government. Misinformation, personal attacks, and reckless allegations have strained our community’s spirit. Enough is enough!

Our wonderful Town of Melbourne Beach thrives when we focus on solutions, not sabotage. We are a town of dedicated public servants, volunteers, and neighbors who care deeply about our future. Rep. Miller’s actions remind us that progress requires collaboration, not chaos.

Truth and Accuracy Matter believes in accountability over alleged allegations. We trust Rep. Miller’s efforts will reaffirm what most of us already know: the Town of Melbourne Beach operates with transparency and diligence. Let this audit be a reminder that facts matter—and that our systems work when given the chance.

To our neighbors: Stay informed, stay engaged, and reject the noise. To Rep. Miller: Thank you for standing with the Town of  Melbourne Beach. We look forward to partnering in the pursuit of truth.  Click HERE for further updates.
