Unethical Practices

There are MAJOR ethics concerns brewing in the Town of Melbourne Beach.

Based on the statements made at the Town Candidate Forum last Tuesday, it is imperative that we all see the alliance between Steve Walters, Bruce Larson and Mayor Dennington. In his closing statement, Steve Walters said, “I believe this community is at a crossroads.” Walters openly declared, “Bruce (Larson) and I will bring a ‘SUPERMAJORITY’ on the Commission.” Both Walters and Larson made it clear when answering Question #9 about the pending lawsuits that they support the Mayor’s settlement. Before casting your votes for the Commission candidates on Election Day it’s important to understand this single issue…

Mayor Dennington’s multiple lawsuits have cost Town taxpayers $163,538.50 as of September 17, 2025. These lawsuits are NOT in settlement. All three lawsuits are pending. The Town has the right to receive reimbursement of the legal fees based on the merits of each case. Walters and Larson want the supermajority, NOT for the people in our Town, NOT for preserving our Town, but because they support Mayor Dennington’s personal agenda for her settlement agreement.

Town Attorney Ryan Knight presented the settlement offer from Mayor Dennington demanding $56, 350.47 from the Town. Local attorney and concerned citizen from the Town of Melbourne Beach, J. Andrew Weerts, was outraged after watching the October Regular Town Commission Meeting (RTCM) last week as the agenda item was presented. As a result, Attorney Weerts drafted and emailed the following letter to the sitting Commissioners:
