Oh, what a tangled web we weave…

Truth and Accuracy Matter has discovered more lies and deception being posted on Nextdoor.    It appears, the Puppet Master, Steve Walters, is pulling the strings on one of his favorite marionettes. The ongoing antics of Kate Wilborn mysteriously mimic the words of Mr. Walters. 

Ms. Wilborn, a self-employed social worker and former candidate for Town Commissioner, lost her bid for election. She has since performed a never-ending show against the Town management, particularly targeting Town Manager Elizabeth Mascaro.  

After her loss, Ms. Wilborn sought appointments to the Board of Adjustment and a vacant commission seat—requests that were voted down both times by different town officials. Undeterred, she asserts herself at public meetings, where she often takes on a combative tone directed toward Town staff, some Commissioners and most recently turning her accusations toward Town residents.

Ms. Wilborn’s recent performance reached new heights when she took to the stage on Nextdoor to allege "Subterfuge" regarding the Town Manager position—a false claim rooted in deception. Her post claims, “The Town Manager position mysteriously closes a month before contract is actually up? No applicants?” This assertion was not only misleading but also demonstrably false.

Ms. Wilborn, if you are going to portray yourself as someone who knows what is happening in our Town and post for our community to see, the first step is to pay attention at the Commission meetings!  Allow us to demonstrate how simple it is to verify the TRUTH.

At the June 2, 2025 Special Town Commission Meeting (CLICK HERE FOR VIDEO REPLAY),  our Town Manager was directed by the Commission to advertise a Request For Proposals (RFP) for qualified executive search firms to perform a nationwide search for the position of Town Manager. THIS is the first step to begin searching for candidates to apply for the position. 

Town Manager Mascaro instructed HR Director, Jennifer Kerr, to submit the RFP. This was done on June 6, 2025 - with proposals due by June 27th. Please see a copy of the RFP on the Town Manager’s page of the Town’s website.  CLICK HERE  This notice was advertised on the appropriate platforms to obtain a search firm. 

When no proposals were received after this initial solicitation period closed, Town Manager Mascaro made the prudent decision to repost the RFP with an extended deadline of 2:00 pm on July 16, 2025, allowing for the maximum amount of time to receive proposals before the next Regular Town Commission meeting on the same date at 6:00 pm.

Please note: The Town Manager’s contract expires on September 30, 2025, not as indicated by Ms. Wilborn in her post on July 8, 2025 where she states, “The Town Manager position mysteriously closes a month before contract is actually up?”

Despite these facts being readily available and easily verifiable to anyone, Ms. Wilborn willfully or ignorantly LIED on a social media platform in order to mislead the residents of our Town. This is concerning for the reputation and future of our Town!

For the many residents who cherish our tight-knit community here in the Town of Melbourne Beach, this ongoing manipulation creates nothing but division and strife.
