Fire Department Funding
In a recent press conference, Governor Ron DeSantis tackled an important topic that affects communities across the state of Florida - municipal funding and DOGE investigations. Highlighting the necessity of maintaining robust support for essential services, CFO Blaise Ingoglia also spoke explaining the priorities and pitfalls that local governments need to be aware of when working with their budgets. He emphasized that the most critical areas for funding are police and fire departments.
At a time when budgets are tight and priorities often clash, Governor DeSantis and his DOGE team remind local municipalities that public safety should always come first. Their comments and direction serve as a wake-up call to all local officials to ensure that law enforcement and firefighting services have the resources they need to protect their communities effectively.

At Truth and Accuracy Matter, we believe it’s essential to stay informed about how our state leaders expect local governments to prioritize public safety. The majority of our Town Commissioners recently voted YES to properly fund our MBVFD, ensuring that our tax dollars are well spent to protect our properties, our safety and our lives. As Commissioner Butler recapped after the August 19th Budget Meeting, “The item I would like to highlight is the budgeted amount for the Fire Chief's proposed hybrid model for the department passed, 4-1 with the Mayor dissenting. The budgeted amount is assuming that we receive the SAFIR Grant, however if it is not awarded to us, we have funds on hand as well as the revenue we will obtain from the sale of our current fire truck.” Many thanks to the four Commissioners who led with integrity and common sense!
