Politics in Paradise
As the sun rises over the horizon each morning in Melbourne Beach, it brings warmth and rays of hope as each new day begins. Last week marked a pivitol point of optimism with the confirmation of two exceptional candidates for Town Commission that will appear on the November ballot - Dr. Terry Cronin and Sherri Quarrie. Truth and Accuracy Matter is happy to support candidates when positivity and civic duty intersect.
Our Town has been torn apart with negativity and personal agendas of divide and conquer. We believe that could have been avoided with the right leadership. Now, the choice is before us to select our Town leaders once again. Dr. Cronin and Ms. Quarrie stand out as beacons of positivity, embodying the idea that happier people give more and do more in the name of what is good for the Town. Their campaign promsises are rooted in experience, integrity, common sense, and a genuine desire to uplift those around them.
Sherri Quarrie’s motto - “Experience and Integrity Matter” - is not just a slogan, it embodies her contributions and commitment to our town, promising to serve with transparency and accountability. With years of dedicated service under her belt, Sherri has shown us all how she looks out for what is best for our town and its residents. It was Sherri Quarrie who initiated the original Vacation Rental Ordinance back in 2017. She realized then that regulations needed to be put in place to control the onset of a new trend that was sweeping through our community! Sherri Quarrie also championed the Low Speed Vehicle regulations to require inspections of the rapidly increasing use of “golf carts” around town. These inspections now generate an additional $10,000 per year in revenue for the Town. She also implemented designated parking areas near the parks for families to utilize their LSVs more often around town, therefore saving wear and tear to our roadways with lighter vehicles. It was also Sherri Quarrie who lead the property rights issue to allow residents to park their RVs and boats on their property as long as it was behind the front line of the house. “If it fits, it sits" is what Sherri is known for saying about RVs and Boats in our coastal community. Most notably, it was Sherri Quarrie that initiated the Paid Parking regulation for visitors at Ryckman Park, Ocean Park and all beach crossovers. This was a huge benefit for our Town, not only in the additional $157,000 in revenue that it has added to our budget on a yearly basis (the numbers fluctuate from year to year), but also in the lowered vandalism and clean-up requirements at our parks. This additional revenue pays for park improvements, street signs and even one police officer’s salary! Sherri Quarrie is a true visionary.
Dr. Terry Cronin’s motto - “Your Prescription for Common Sense Government”, reflects his 25 year experience as a professional in his field and a successful businessman as well as his leadership qualities from being elected to be the President of the American Academy of Dermatology in 2023 to serving on various high-level boards both nationally and internationally. Dr. Cronin has lived in the Town of Melbourne Beach for over 50 years and loves our community with all his heart. He is committed to giving his all as Town Commissioner, and to serve as a leader who will meet all issues on common ground. During these times of political discourse and misinformation within our town, Dr. Cronin offers a practical approach based on thoughtful dialogue rather than divisiveness. Common sense rooted in compassion is the key to his approach about governance by inviting all residents of the Town of Melbourne Beach into the conversation. Terry Cronin received massive support on his petition to qualify as a candidate, obtaining an impressive 97 signatures when only 25 are required. This example not only shows the overwhelming support he has from our fellow residents, it also proves how Terry Cronin goes above and beyond when he decides to do something. We are thankful that Dr. Cronin has stepped into this role to serve as Town Commissioner.
As we prepare to cast our votes this November, please remember to do your part in supporting these two candidates. Supporting candidates who promote integrity and common sense will endorse the values we want to see reflected across every faucet of life here in Melbourne Beach. By choosing positivity during this election - with hopeful hearts guided by Sherri’s dedication and Terry’s common-sense approach - we affirm our belief that happier people do indeed give more.
Let’s rally behind these two candidates who inspire joy so we can collectively build an even brighter future for the Town of Melbourne Beach - for ourselves and generations to come!
