“Bullied by our Mayor”

In September 2024, at the Regular Town Commission Meeting, an agenda item was presented by then Vice Mayor, Sherri Quarrie to conduct an investigation into the allegations made about a “toxic workplace” claimed in resignation letters received by Town Management. After some discussion, the motion passed 5-0 to direct the Town Manager to hire an independent company to survey all the employees. People Element LLC, a top-rated employee survey firm, was retained to prepare and perform the survey. The service cost was $5,000.00 for a one year contract and can be used multiple times.

The results for this survey have been completed. A segment of the full report, shown below, reveals the anonymous responses from staff employees. (The full report will be available through a Public Records Request.)

The results will be shocking to some people, but not to others. These findings reveal that our town staff feel harassed, stressed, and unsafe working around our mayor, Alison Dennington. They go on further to state they have watched Mayor Dennington harass others in their work environment.

The survey also reveals the respect many employees shared regarding our former Town Manager, Elizabeth Mascaro. Yes, this is the Town Manager that Mayor Alison Dennington stated is “FINALLY GONE” in one of her recent Facebook posts.  Is this because Elizabeth Mascaro had the courage and wherewithal to stand up for her employees when the mayor was attacking them?  Our Town Charter very clearly states that Town staff reports to the Town Manager… not the mayor, or the commission!

It is unconscionable that our dedicated town staff are being continually harassed and have their characters questioned. This behavior is wrong. Because of it, we have lost many great employees in the past year. We lost our building official, Robert Bitgood. We lost our building permit expert, Kim. Most importantly, we lost our excellent Town Manager, Elizabeth Mascaro. Losing people like this hurts our town, costs the taxpayers more money and makes it harder to serve residents.

When you vote, choose leaders who know how to lead with integrity. We need commissioners who listen and solve problems. We do not need bullies who only want their own way. Good leaders build trust that will keep our town safe, strong, and respected by all.

VOTE for EXPERIENCE AND INTEGRITY… PLEASE VOTE FOR SHERRI QUARRIE AND TERRY CRONIN
