Neighbors in Action
On May 20, 2025, a group of concerned residents in the Town of Melbourne Beach established Truth and Accuracy Matter. The required paperwork is on file with the Town and is a public record for anyone to view. CLICK HERE to view.
We formed this political action committee (PAC) to give EVERYONE a clear and accurate understanding of the political climate in our town. With limited resources, we built a website and sent an announcement through direct mail to every resident in town. Our message was well received and the PAC expanded quickly to now include over 120 concerned citizens in just four short months. To Date, over 5,800 people have visited our website. Contrary to false rumors that some people are spreading about Truth and Accuracy Matter, WE ARE SIMPLY YOUR NEIGHBORS. We love our town and want to preserve the residential charm that brought us here. We talk about the issues in our town with transparency and honesty. Our articles are backed with documentation, not opinions and personal agendas.
Over the years, our town has experienced the effects of the division spread on social media platforms like Nextdoor. Finally, a group of neighbors decided, enough is enough. We formed Truth and Accuracy Matter to expose the negativity and lies, reveal the truth and help heal our town. Our goal is to restore civility and work as one community for solutions that benefit the residents as a whole. Too often, we see division, accusations and lies.
The biggest lie is that Truth and Accuracy Matter is nothing more than “out-of-town millionaires, developers and corporate backers who want to change our town.” Please see our list of donors here. Our members and donors recognize and appreciate that we are a unique and special piece of paradise. We just want to protect and preserve everyone’s quality of life.
The truth is, WE ARE NOT OPEN FOR DEVELOPMENT, AND WE ARE NOT UP FOR SALE, as some people state on Nextdoor. We support our town’s ordinances that restrict building heights, restrict multi-family units and regulate short term rentals.
Truth and Accuracy Matter was created “To support effective leadership in the Town of Melbourne Beach, educate residents about the issues and how our local government works.” CLICK HERE to see Form DS-DE 5, pages 7 & 8
Below are some examples of what we have accomplished for the Town:
Unpaid fine compliance: Treasurer Reports for candidate’s campaigns, as well as political action committees, are mandated by Florida statute and have reporting deadlines. These reporting obligations must be submitted on time or face fines. Through a public records request, Truth and Accuracy Matter revealed to the Commission that Mayor Dennington had a longstanding $3,155.00 unpaid fine from 2023 that she ignored paying to the Town. Mayor Dennington‘s fine underscores the value of civic scrutiny and the principle that public officials and political action committees must meet reporting deadlines. Thanks to our efforts, Mayor Dennington finally paid her outstanding fine two weeks ago. CLICK HERE
FDLE review and public records: Our research and reporting brought public attention to a Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) investigative report (case EI-73-8731) involving a complaint filed by Mayor Dennington. FDLE concluded there was no basis to her complaint. FDLE also flagged concerning material in the email chain from Mayor Dennington — including references to firearm purchases that she made and noting that her emails were “mostly incoherent.” Most Importantly, the FDLE report states that “Mayor Dennington filed two new civil lawsuits through her company, Funoe LLC, against the Town of Melbourne Beach.” CLICK HERE to read the article.
Monitoring Mayor Dennington’s lawsuits: We continue to track legal actions and related costs to the town taxpayers, especially those created by Mayor Dennington, so the residents understand the fiscal effects on the town budget. CLICK HERE for the current total of $163,538.00
FEMA grant concerns: We identified and shared information about communications related to the Town’s FEMA SAFER grant application for the fire department. That grant could affect approximately $1M over three years. CLICK HERE for details.
Fire Department Support: We attended public briefings, assembled a summary, and sent a direct mail piece to every home. We hosted a community ice-cream social in Ryckman Park with guest speaker Fire Chief Brown to share factual information and listen to residents’ concerns. CLICK HERE for information flyer.
State audit follow-up: We are working with State Rep. Monique Miller and the legislative analyst in Tallahassee regarding the JLAC audit concerning our Town’s accounting standards and laws. More details coming soon. CLICK HERE
